The qualifying gap was significant: Pospíšil set a time of 1:48.892, while Szymczyk was four tenths of a second slower. Albano Kofsha lined up just behind them. Pospíšil, however, made a poor start and failed to negotiate the first corner cleanly, running wide. He dropped to fourth as Szymczyk moved into the lead.
Pospíšil refused to give up. He gradually worked his way back to second and seized his opportunity to pass Szymczyk on the Kemmel Straight. But he could not hold the lead: he later spun and ended up in the gravel trap. He avoided the wall, but lost both position and contact with the leaders. Szymczyk took first place, Daniel Jelínek moved up to second and Pospíšil continued in third.
Ferrari remained quick nonetheless. Pospíšil was setting competitive lap times and closing on Jelínek before his pit stop. He too came in around halfway through the race; his car needed repairs, and he rejoined the track a long way behind the leading pair. That did not halt his pace. In the closing stages, he continued to chip away at Szymczyk’s advantage, bringing it below three seconds.
There was no time for a decisive attack, however. Szymczyk held the lead to the finish and won ahead of Pospíšil, who could manage only second place despite starting from pole and running off the track. Jelínek finished third. The result reversed the qualifying order: Pospíšil had the pace to win, but Szymczyk capitalised on his mistake and kept his advantage in the closing stages.
