Kloupar capitalises on Grossbi’s absence to finish fourth at Spa

Jaroslav Kloupar left Spa with fourth place and an opportunity to close the gap to Ben Grossbi, who did not attend the race. Kloupar will likely continue to fight Szymczyk.

Even before the start, it was clear the race offered Kloupar a chance to score valuable championship points. Ben Grossbi was absent from the event, and Kloupar was ten points short of a place on the overall championship podium before the race. With his rival unable to defend his position at Spa, the result could prove important in their battle in the standings.

On track, the Williams driver found himself battling Daniel Jelínek, who was moving forwards quickly from sixth place. Jan Pospíšil was also ahead of Kloupar after getting past him during his progress through the field following a mistake of his own; Pospíšil later climbed as high as second. Kloupar came close to running off the circuit in his battle with Pospíšil. He nearly lost control of the car, but managed to catch it and avoid a more serious accident.

That proved a significant moment in a race in which positions changed both at the front and further back. Kloupar avoided the substantial loss that could have followed an off-track excursion or a collision, keeping himself in contention for the leading places. His recovery left him within reach of a strong finish despite the battles around him.

At the finish, he took fourth place behind Mateusz Szymczyk, Jan Pospíšil and Daniel Jelínek. He was one position short of the podium, but the result mattered beyond the race itself. While Grossbi could not defend his position at Spa, Kloupar had the opportunity to move ahead of him through the points he scored. The event was therefore not simply a fight for fourth: it also gave Kloupar a chance to get back into contention for a higher position in the championship standings.
